Abstract
A notion of ‘Live Meanings’ serves to relativize the ambitions of formal semantics and to strictly maintain a principle of
compositionality; this enables one to enjoy, not deny, findings of the contextualists—as well as those of cognitive or conceptual
semanticists. The paper can be taken to argue for a cohabitation of the distinguished disciplines.
